Security operatives from the SCID, Ikeja yesterday arrested the former chairman of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Lagos chapter, Prince Oriwaye Joseph Adefolalu. It was learnt that Adefolalu who was the Chairman of the institution’s SSANU between 2003 and 2009 has been at the forefront and part of the negotiation team, in the lingering conflict between the school authorities and the unions in the premier institution.

It was alleged that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe ordered the arrest of the SSANU leader. In a message sent to LEADERSHIP by the Head of information of UNILAG, Mrs. Taiwo Oloyede said, “I heard about the arrest of the Union leaders but I do not know who ordered their arrest.”

It was gathered that security operatives, numbering over 12 who came in three vehicles with special plate numbers invaded his residence around midnight and held the members of his family hostage, until he was forced to open the door.Sources said he had to surrender himself to them when the threat became unbearable and for the security of the members of his family.

The security operatives were said to have dropped address with the family and whisked him away to their Ikeja Office where he also met another Union leader, Mr. Adekola Adetomiwa, who has also been arrested and detained. It would be recalled that the institution had postponed its convocation ceremony indefinitely as a result of ongoing  NASU strike.
