Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, expressed the commitment of Edo State government in ending all forms of violence against children in the state.
The Edo first lady who stated this in her goodwill message at the official launch of the Edo State priority response plan to end violence against children held at Imaguero College in Benin City, the Edo State Capital.
She noted that the event couldn’t have come at a better time than now and disclosed that her interaction with the Speaker of the State children’s parliament turned out to be revealing adding that she was “ alarmed at the rising spate of violence against children across the state and the different dimension it has taken ”
“Today, am elated to see that this committee has handled this assignment with the urgency, seriousness and commitment required to make the state-specific plan a reality. May I state that this is only one of the many collaborations and interventions that this administration is committed to undertaking towards tackling the myriad of issues affecting the development and future of the children of Edo state”
Edo State Governor, Governor Godwin Obaseki, who was represented by his Deputy Hon. Phillip Shaibu, said the child right bill passed in the state is enforceable even as he assured that violators of child right would be meant to face the full wrath of the law.
Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Magdalene Ohenhen in her remarks said “ the global campaign to end violence against children was as a result of the findings from national survey on violence against children conducted by the National population commission in 2014”
She urged all stakeholders to join in the global campaign to ensure that the children living in Edo state are safe and are protected from all forms of violence.
Speaker Edo State children parliament Miss Jacinta Abieyuwa Omoregie, while thanking the state government for the launch said the implementation marks the end of all forms of abuse in Edo state.
The event which had in attendance top government officials from other states and selected students across secondary schools in Edo State.
