Journalists Urged To Be Dogged In Discharge Of Their Duties

Sen. Abdullahi Yahaya has urged Nigerian journalist to be objective and dogged in the discharge of their duties in spite of the difficult terrain they find themselves.   

The pioneer permanent secretary of the Niger Delta Development Commission stated this when Arewa Journalist Forum presented him with an award for integrity and excellence in his office. He also said that the award was an encouragement for him to do more because he did not solicit for it having rejected similar awards in the past because he believes that, it is after he has left the senate and if adjudged to have done a good job before he can merit an award.

The lawmaker who is representing Kebbi north senatorial district in the Nigerian senate further stated that” Nigerian journalist are known all over the world to be dogged and objective in the discharge of their duties, even in the face of tyranny and persecution. Because for any government to succeed in a democratic setting, they need the media”.

Earlier, the president of the Forum, Hassan Galadima stated that, Sen Yahaya was considered for the award because of his principles and boldness. The veteran journalist said the lawmaker is not among those that play to the gallery or just warm the bench at the senate but is always outspoken and say things the way he sees them without minding whose ox is gored.

Arewa Journalist forum is an auspicious umbrella forum of Northern journalism that cuts across the19 northern states and FCT. They seek to promote good governance, peace and progress of Nigeria. the forum which has all northern traditional rulers as patron  has given out awards to prominent northern sons and daughter since its inception in 2006.
