In its effort to address the health challenges facing Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in Gombe state, the Presidential Committee on North East Initiative (PCNI) is set to embark on a free medical intervention programme.
Malam Tijjani Tumsa chairman of the committee disclosed this in Gombe when the committee paid a courtesy visit to Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo.
He said the medical outreach will commence on Monday through Friday and it will be done in collaboration with the state government.
He further said, the committee has commenced five days retreat in Gombe to strategize ways on how to improve the well being of the IDPs and goals of the PCNI.
“We are transiting from intervention to development of projects in the North East towards improving the well being of the IDPs” . He said.
In his response, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo commended PCNI for its various interventions in the state, disclosing that all items received were judiciously utilized.
He then appealed to the committee to carry out more developmental projects in the region to help rehabilitate and resettle the displaced persons.
He also prayed that IDPs camps in the North East region will be history in the nearest future.
He said in his effort to rehabilitate the IDPs, he provided accommodation for them and were integrated in various host communities in the state.
“We in Gombe, we do not have IDPs camp we have provided accommodation for them, Some of them were not willing to go back to where they came from because they are comfortable in Gombe so they were integrated in the host communities.”
