A Kaduna South Senatorial hopeful, Mr Rijo Shekari has expressed shock over the demise of the first Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Most Rev Joseph Bagobiri.
In a statement he personally signed, Rijo said he made several unsuccessful attempts at putting together a condolence message in reaction to the shocking transition to eternal bliss of the people’s gadfly, the conscience of the masses, the pastor of souls, the defender of the weak and oppressed, Most Reverend Dr. Joseph Danlami Bagobiri.
“Each time I tried to write something, something told me to hold on a bit, it might be a rumour. Being a man who listens to his spirit, given my earnest wish for the Bishop to have lived longer for us, I held on, hoping against hope to get a message saying THERE WAS A MIX UP, THE BISHOP IS ALIVE.
But the more I hoped the more I read from very serious persons that indeed we have suffered a big loss. And once i read a confirmation in a chat room from one of the Bishop’s Vicars, Rev. Fr. Michael Magaji, I knew there was no more waiting,” Rijo said.
The statement described the Bishop as someone who was a shining light, a beacon of hope, a charismatic preacher and fearless defender of the weak and downtrodden.
“We are grieved beyond words. As we struggle to come to terms with the reality of your demise, we pray that the good Lord whose servant you were will grant eternal repose to your soul.”
“May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ console the Bishops of the Province, his immediate family, the priests and lay faithful of the Catholic Church in Kafanchan and indeed the entire Southern Kaduna nation, and grant us all the fortitude to bear this gargantuan loss and raise people of good conscience like the late Bishop to continue where he stopped,” the statement said.
“You fought a good fight, you finished the race marked for you. Rest well until we meet at the feet of Jesus. Adieu the People’s Bishop!,” Rijo added.
