The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has revealed that the 9th edition of Zuma Film Festival has been scheduled to take place first week of December, 2018. Speaking to journalists in Abuja recently, the managing director, NFC, Chidia Madueke, stated that the consensus of all stakeholders, especially Nigerian filmmakers, as well as Nigerian Film Corporation, agreed to have the festival yearly, mostly with the view to ensure sustainable film activities and promotion of excellence in Nigeria’s film sector. Madueke said, “For 9th edition of Zuma festival, 2018, we have deliberately packaged a bouquet which no doubt will add value to the growth of Nigeria’s creative sector.
‘’The economic value chain associated with hosting the festival in Abuja is enormous. With the expected attendance to surpass that of the 8th edition, the city of Abuja is set to witness robust film activities for one week from December 1 – 7, 2018. ‘’NFC, through ZUFF 2018, seeks to bring to the front burner, the need to preserve Nigeria’s memory for future generations of Nigerians. Our goal is to have these images, and the sounds associated with the images, available for present and future generations. As the world is being driven by digital technologies, film making in Nigeria and around the world, equally should move with these inventions and innovations.”
According to him, the theme ‘Archiving for Creativity’, shall reignite the consciousness in film makers and other stakeholders on the important role of film, audio visualarchiving of creative works and posterity values. He reiterated that the Zuma film festival is a paradigm shift to protect and preserve several thousands of films that have been produced in Nigeria, the past decades, with several pieces of collections of audio-visual and film materials being lost due to nonpreservation
