*Condemned Activities of Herdsmen, Human Trafficking
Edo State Chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has urged Nigerians to show interest in the political fortune of the Country by ensuring that they get their permanent voters card, PVC’s ready ahead of the 2019 general election in order to determine and partake the political affairs of the Nation.
The Christian body also opposed the proposed move to established cattle colonies in the Country owing to what it described as the murderous activities of killer Fulani herdsmen in parts of Nigeria and called for concerted effort on the part of government in ending the activities of criminal fulani herders.
Addressing Journalists in Benin City, the Edo State Capital, the state Chairman of CAN, Reverend Dr Oyonude Kure, also expressed worry over the trafficking of persons in the state adding that as Christians it is not only against the body of Christ but also against the constitution of the land and our culture
He Stated: We are fully opposed to the establishment of cattle colony in our state, they have been so many killings by the Fulani herdsmen, our women and girls have been assaulted and a number of our people cannot even go to their farms because of the activities of these herdsmen. As the body of Christ, we are saying it should be resisted by every Edo person and that is why CAN is condemning the killing and menace of Fulani herdsmen in totality
“We want all meaningful Edo people to rise up against this evil. The government should look at the establishment of ranching which is the standard even in the western world in handling the issue of cattle rearing. However, we appreciate the steps taken by the Edo state government to ban night grazing and we are asking that government should put machinery place to ensure that it is carried out to the later.
“In as much as we are praying for the state and the Country we want every person resident in Edo state to should know that the Christian leadership is concern about what is happening in Nigeria. So, we want to use this opportunity to urge all Christian in our state to go out and register and get your PVC’s. As Christian body we have taken a resolution that all Christians should go and join political parties of their choice and to be fully involved in the political destiny of our state and nation to move it forward.
