Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, yesterday said that his administration might establish special court to tackle Hajj related offences.
Receiving 2017 Hajj report from the leader of the state delegation who is also the deputy governor, Mannir Yakubu, the governor assured that the call for Hajj tribunal and other recommendations of the committee would be looked into.
“I think I support the idea of Hajj tribunal and it is an issue which Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar had raised about one or two years ago to curb some bad behaviors of pilgrims,” hesaid.
The governor, who expressed concern over lack of knowledge of Hajj exercise by both urban elite and rural illiterates, said Hajj is still highly subsidized as one of the five pillars of Islam.
He maintained that the operation required perseverance and endurance, saying it is neither a tea party nor a picnic as traveling for whatever purpose is not easy.
Earlier, the state deputy governor, Mannir Yakubu, in a 30 page report, stressed the need for among others a review of the provisions in the affidavit of intending pilgrims to ensure that the breach of such provisions would attract penalties.
Yakubu noted that despite the success recorded in the operation, the excesses of some pilgrims and officials could tarnish the image of the state and the nation if there were no appropriate sanctions.
