When it seems like going against the popular norm is erroneous, Nollywood Director, Cheta Chukwu makes everyone a believer of setting a new stride as his soon to be release movie, ‘PayDay’ makes it across borders to screen at the 2018 International Festival of Detective Films in Moscow, Russia in April.
The movie, ‘PayDay’ , which has been ruled out of the race to be one of Nollywood’s record breaking Box Office movie due to the Director’s decision to not cast major box office stars, has gone ahead to join one of Nollywood movies to be selected for an international Film Festival.
The movie which features actors like Big Brother Naija runner Up Bisola Aiyeola, Baaj Adebule, Comedian Ebiye Victor, Mawuli Gavor, Frank Adekunle, Meg Otanwa, Zack Orji and more will be screening alongside other international feature films, documentary films and TV series, animation films, thematic TV programs and TV spots, which was produced during the period of February, 1st, 2017 to January, 31st, 2018.
PayDay follows the story of two best friends and flat mates, Paul (Baaj Adebule) and Ortega (Ebiye Victor) who, just before they are about to renew their yearly rent, their Landlord dies very suddenly, and seemingly without any heir apparent. The young men seize upon the unfortunate but good opportunity to ‘enjoy’ a little.
They go on an expensive night out. The Landlord’s daughter (Segilola Ogidan) turns up the following morning and gives the boys 24-hour notice to pay up or quit. They embark on an overnight scheme to recover the rent, leading to a dangerous encounter with an eccentric drug baron (Frank Adekunle Macaulay), a desperate robbery attempt, a gambling adventure, and an ego war with the neighborhood bully, Orlando (Mawuli Gavor). All the while they were hounded by Ngozi (Bisola Aiyeola), the neighborhood gossip, who just wants a piece of the action.
Speaking with the Director, Cheta , on this feat, he said; “It is amazing how far a simple idea or thought can go. Making a movie is definitely not an easy task however, making something that people will truly love is why we do the work that we do. I am glad that with this platform, I get to show the world what it truly means to bring an idea to life and I really can’t wait.”
Produced by Orwi Manny Ameh and written by Cheta Chukwu, PayDay is set to hit cinemas nationwide soon.
