The Taraba State Concerned Elders Forum,TCEF has called on the military authorities to as a matter of urgency call the military operation code named “Cat Race” to order.
In a press statement signed by elders Fidelis K. Kaigama and John Mamman and a copy made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday in Jalingo, said the activities of soldiers particularly those in Ussa and Takum local government areas of the state indict the soldiers of invading the houses of innocent people at night between the hours of 1am and 3am beating them mercilessly and confiscating their property.
The statement stressed that government authorities and traditional rulers in both Ussa and Takum LGAs of the state have complained that they were neither consulted nor informed of the operation by the soldiers.
The statement added that the rules of engagement that should normally be issued in an operation like this were not known to them.
“The Nigerian Constitution guarantees every citizens the right to life, property and privacy which these soldiers have trampled upon with impunity. We also advise the soldiers to always try as much as possible to carry out their operations during the day to avoid the planting of illegal arms in people’s houses just to implicate them”, the statement added.
