The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has impacted food industry by reducing drastically the importation of raw materials into the country and also encouraging local content. This statement was disclosed by the director, Investment Consultancy Services department, Dr. Zainab Hammanga, at a press conference held in Lagos. According to her, the local content aspect  was the Council’s main focus. She stressed further that some few years ago, fruit juice packages coming into the country and the juice contained mostly water and little concentrates.

“You will recall  that in those days, we were importing the water as well as the  fruit concentrates but with time, with the  encouragement of our farmers to produce more fruits and also the local industries that are producing fruit juice, we have been able to reduce the level of importation to the extent that some of these local companies use their own concentrates using our oranges and pineapple. Our aim is to continue to reduce import of raw materials for all our industries to use what we have in the country,” she added.
