A truck driver, Jubril Ibrahim, has been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrates’ court for allegedly causing the death of three students of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin and that of a taxi driver.
The accused was dragged before Magistrate Bio Saliu’s court on the offence of driving without due care and dangerous driving contrary to section 23 of RTL.
The First Information Report (FIR) revealed that, Ibrahim, being in charge of a tipper lorry with registration number, LSR 814 XS was heading to Tanke from Oke- Oyi but rammed into a taxi which was coming from the opposite direction.
It further disclosed that the taxi with the registration number BDU 727 XA had already lost control thereby colliding with the tipper lorry.
The FIR stated that the collision resulted into accident that eventually claimed the lives of the taxi driver, Mumini Amao and three other passengers who were students of Kwara state Polytechnic, Ilorin.
The students who lost their lives in the accident were; Yusuf Abiodun, Rashidat Adenike Agbomabini, Eniola Muheez Oladipupo.
The prosecutor, Abdulkadri Jimoh, however, urged the court to exercise its discretionary power on the issue of bail.
Counsel to the driver, Wahab Ismail, prayed the court to release his client on bail premising his reason on the fact that he remains innocent of the offences before him until proved otherwise by the court.
He said, “From the face of the FIR, it shows that the deceased who drove the taxi lost control of his car thereby collided with the oncoming tipper.”
The magistrate in his ruling admitted Ibrahim to bail in the sum of N100,000, two sureties and one of them must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the matter to 11th April, 2018.
