Taraba State University Jalingo has recorded 29 First Class graduates and 1006 graduates with Second Class Upper Division in a span of five sets. The vice chancellor of the university,Prof Vincent Tenebe, who disclosed this yesterday in Jalingo at the university’s maiden convocation press briefing said that most of the First Class graduates are already absorbed by the school and those who are not yet absorbed can apply to be taken as Graduate Assistants.
Tenebe disclosed that the university’s maiden convocation scheduled for Saturday was a historic event that would also mark the institution’s tenth anniversary and would feature paper presentation on “Job Seekers and Job Providers: the Role of the University in Entrepreneurial Development and Youth Empowerment in Nigeria,” by Dr Tony Elumelu.
Tenebe said that as a growing university, he was not only concerned with bringing infrastructural development to the school but also ensuring that the quality of lecturers and teaching is such that would produce graduates with competitive advantage wherever they go.
Prof Tenebe said that the university was already working hard to come up with a micro ranching model that is both cost effective and would address the challenge of open grazing that has cost so many lives in the state and the country at large. “Let me inform you that the university recognises the enormous agricultural potentials of the state and is working hard in terms of researches that would improve the quality of farming and farm produce in the state greatly.
“We are currently working on a micro ranching model that would address the current agitations against open grazing prohibition so that most herders would ranch their cattle with relative ease and more young graduates would be encouraged to go into agriculture especially livestock production in order to check the high level of unemployment in the country”, Tenebe said.
