Gov Obiano Rolls Out 50-year Development Plan




Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano has rolled out a 50-year development plan, stating that the plan would guarantee that subsequent administrations do not derail from the vision of developing the state.

Governor Obiano made the disclosure during the opening ceremony of a two-day retreat organised in Awka for members of the state newly constituted State Executive Council.

Addressing participants, which included the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff, Principal Secretary to the Governor, 19 Commissioners, Special Advisers and other top political appointees; Governor Obiano noted that most developed countries of the world were able to achieve their level of development because they set for themselves, realistic long-term plans with very minimal financial implications and service costs.

He pointed out that while it was important to adopt a long-term development plan for the state, his government would not lose sight of its responsibility of creating short and medium term opportunities for wealth creation in the state.

Governor Obiano revealed that in his second term, more efforts would be directed towards youth’s mobilization and employment adding that in order  to drive the vision, he had appointed a 32-year old as Commissioner for Youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, to be assisted by a team of experts in youth’s affairs.

The governor reminded the new appointees that they were brought on board to contribute meaningfully towards the growth of the state and urged them not to relapse into laxity as he would  not hesitate to disengage anyone found wanting.
In his reaction, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Primus Odili observed that the expectation of Ndi Anambra from the present administration is very high and commended Governor Obiano for his expertise and understanding of the role planning plays in the achievement of goals.

He said with the quality of individuals constituting the State Executive Council, there is no doubt as to whether the second term will have better impact on the citizen more than the past four years.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Chief James Eze, also in his reaction stated that the retreat presented an opportunity to X-ray and consolidate on areas the present administration has done right in its first term, as well as to create the right motivation that will enable the appointees adopt best practices in the discharge of their duties in line with the vision of the present administration.

Meanwhile, the people of Ogwuaniocha community in Ogbaru local government of Anambra state have commended the state governor,  for wiping their tears by giving them a road that traverses through their entire community and links them up to the the state’s commercial hub, Onitsha.
