A former minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has charged youths in Nasarawa State, to learn skills that will make them self reliant, instead of waiting for government jobs that is not forthcoming.

Maku, gave the task recently  in Andaha, in Akwanga Local government area of Nasarawa State, while speaking as the Chairman of an occasion organised by the community.

The occasion was an appeal fund raising to build a community multi-purpose hall and the inauguration of 300 youths and women, to learn skills in different field, sponsored by an NGO, Majalisan Maccido Andaha Foundation.

The 300 youths and women selected from Andaha ward of Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa State, will receive training in the areas of ten skills namely mechanic, carpentry, driving, tiling, pop making and others.

The former minister commended the NGO, Majalisan Maccido Andaha Foundation, for sponsoring the training of 300 youths and women, to learn skills that will empower them in future.

“Skill acquisition is very important. As you are all aware, white collar jobs are no longer available. That is why I enjoin you to tap into the skill acquisition training offered you here so you can be self-employed and create jobs for others,”

“Be careful and select which of the skills that fit you so that you can perfect yourself and I want you to pay attention and learn a particular skill you think you are good in,” Maku stressed.

Also speaking, the Chun Nga, Alhaji Yusuf Amwe, thanked the NGO for the initiative and other numerous programs, as he urged the trainees to be focused and achieve the objectives set for them.
