The Head, department of health in Gwagwalada area council, Dr Adeyemi Adeniran has called for a strengthening of Routine Immunisation (RI) to ensure public health.

Adeyemi, who is also the coordinator of Primary Health Care (PHC) in the council, noted that strengthening the routine immunisation would reduce the need for other small programmes, which are not so popular with the people.

He further averred that the child right can be invoked on anyone who rejects immunisation if the routine immunisation exercise is strengthened. “We should strengthen our routine immunisation (RI). If our RI is sound and okay we won’t bother about SIPD and other small programmes. We are working to strengthen our RI and outreaches.

We need legal backing to strengthen our RI, we need to invoke the child right act on anyone that rejects immunisation, “he said

The head of department also called on the government to release funds early, so that social mobilisation and other awareness campaign can be carried out to achieve a hitch free exercise.

“We need to strengthen our social mobilization. We had some challenges that made us compress our activities. The government should release funds on time, to do all the trainings so that social mobilisation and awareness will be carried out,” he said.
