Members of the Concerned Middle Belt Forum of Nigeria has thrown support behind the former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma for calling on Nigerians to rise and defend themselves against any attack by the Fulani militia.
In a press statement jointly signed by the national chairman of the forum, Chief John A. Mamman, and its secretary, Barr. Oumar M. Shittien and a copy made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday in Jalingo, it said the forum has watched with great dismay the rapid drift of the nation into the state of anarchy and chaos as a result of the failure of the federal government to arrest this dangerous trend.
“Nigeria has become a country plagued by numerous crisis including increased armed robberies, rampant kidnappings, cattle rustling, separatist agitations, Fulani herdsmen massacres and revitalized Boko Haram insurgency” ,the press statement said.
The statement added that the primary responsibility of any responsible government is to protect the lives and property of its citizens, adding that the constitution guarantees every Nigerian the right to life, property and privacy.
“The hope that the present administration would provide the needed direction and guidance in stemming this ugly development has since diminished to the extent that most all the states of the federation are theatres of these conflicts”,the statement added.
The statement noted that the armed forces, the police, and other security agencies appear to be incapable and incapacitated in performance of their constitutional duties of securing the lives and property of Nigerians.
“The worst hit areas are those in the middle belt of Nigeria which include Taraba, Adamawa, Benue, Plateau, Southern Kaduna, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara and Niger States.
This zone has been under persistent attacks by the most dangerous terrorist group in the world, the Fulani herdsmen, the statement said.
Further, the statement noted that over three hundred thousand (300,000) people including women and children have been killed or maimed for life while over a million have been displaced and turned into internally displaced persons living with relatives or in IDPs camps across the nation.
