Katsina Police Mop Up Illegal Arms

In line with 21-day ultimatum of the Inspector General Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris for the simultaneous mopping up and recovery of all illegally acquired arms nationwide, no fewer than 30 illegally acquired arms have been surrendered to the police in Katsina State.

The Katsina Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Wakili, who confirmed this at a press conference yesterday, said the command recovered a total of 198 fire arms from suspected criminals and persons that voluntarily turned in their guns since the exercise began.

According to him, the Katsina police recovered 20 AK47 rifles, 10 pistols, 70 locally made pistols, 80 locally made Dane guns, 840 ammunitions and 50 magazines among others.

“The command will not rest on its oars until it recovers all illegally acquired arms in the pocession  of men of the underworld. This is also calling on those who have not returned their illegally acquired fire arms to do before the expiration of the deadline,” he said.

Recall that the IGP, on February 21, 2018, directed all Commissioners of Police and their supervising Assistant Inspector General of Police in the 12 zonal commands to immediately commence a 21 day arms mop-up operation.
