A multinational oil company, Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited, has donated essential drugs worth millions of naira, to no fewer than 10 primary health centres in its host communities in Rivers State.
The benefitting primary health centres are located in Port Harcourt, the state capital and the offshore communities hosting facilities of the oil company.
Speaking at the official handover of the drugs to the communities, the deputy general manager, Community Affairs and Development, TEPNG, Mr. James Urho, said the gesture was in furtherance of the company’s commitment to partnering with government in delivering free health care services to the citizens’ of its host and neighbouring communities.
Urho, who was represented by the manager, Community Affairs, Mr. Okechukwu Okpara, said other programmes planned by TEPNG, in collaboration with the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board (RSPHCMB), include, annual healthy living awareness, safe motherhood and lassa fever, amongst others.
He said, “Other programmes planned in collaboration with the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board include; our annual healthy living awareness, safe motherhood, lassa fever, roll back malaria, prostate/breast/cervical cancer awareness and HIV awareness and preventive campaigns.
“It is our hope that the residents of our host communities as well as personnel in the health institutions will avail themselves of the opportunities these programmes present in order to justify the essence and huge investments in this efforts.”
In his speech, the permanent secretary, Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board (RSPHCMB), Dr. Agiriye Harry, applauded TEPNG for partnering with the state government to achieve curative health care services.
Harry, who was represented by the director of Pharmaceutical Services in RSPHCMB, Pharmacist Atonye Cookey-Gam, said the benefitting communities would be the envy of other communities in the state.
She said, “This event is bigger than the previous ones and we thank Total for this gesture. We cherish the partnership because it is beneficial to the citizenry. As the regulatory body of all primary health centres in the state, we are happy with what Total is doing.
