Conveners of the Southern Kaduna peace parley, have called on the leadership in all strata of society, especially those at community, local government, state and federal government levels, to exercise justice which guarantees peace, unity and advancement.
Welcoming participants to the second Southern Kaduna Peace Gathering held at the grand multipurpose hall, Katsit Kafanchan on Saturday, Rev Gideon Para- Mallam, convener said, “injustice disorganises normal human and societal relationship and justice creates space for its normalisation. There can never be peace without justice and we need to embrace this fact to make real progress, which is what we are doing”.
Rev Gideon Para Mallam said “for this reason, I want to appeal to President Mohammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir el- Rufai to listen to the outcry of people against injustice. Injustice creates the environment which generates this kind of conflict around the country”.
He added, “to live in denial or to look at it as nothing implies that we are killing our selves by shooting ourselves in the foot. Justice is the key to justifiable peace building.”
He said the maiden July 22, 2017 parley, in which over 540 stake holders met, focusing on promoting peaceful co-existence, conflict prevention and building structures for sustainable peace in Southern Kaduna, yielded positive results until the unfortunate, unprovoked attack in some communities in December, 2017 and the eve of 2018.
According to him, the maiden edition of the peace parley stakeholders, which cut across the tribes and ethnic divide, including civil societies and the August, 26, 2017 meeting; identified nine challenges that inhibit peace which conveners categorised into communities, religious, youth, traditional rulership and security agencies related issues.
Others were government, societies, and economic empowerment in related issues as areas of intervention that may necessitate the engagement of NGOs and foreign agencies to support peace building initiatives and effort in Southern Kaduna. He said all hands must be on deck, including synergising with local and foreign NGOs, which are genuine in pursuit of peace.
