Pro bono service lawyers under the aegis  of the Public Defenders Office, PDO,  has appealed  to Kano State government to provide access to justice, for people residing in the hinterland by establishing legal aid offices in rural communities across the state..

The  administrator, Public Defenders Office, PDO, Kano, Barrister (Mrs) Rotkang Kyunni yesterday, during a public sensitization campaign, on human rights, held at Tsohon Kasuwa  in Wudil LG,  described the level of access to justice in rural areas in the state, as disturbing and in need for immediate government engagement and intervention.

According to her,  access to justice within rural communities in the state is  still a challenge, noting that, majority of those residing in the rural areas are indigent persons and are in need of legal first aid and pro bono  services, Kyunni said.

She explained that, free legal service providers are concentrated within Kano metropolis, the indigent persons do not have the means to travel to Kano metropolis to seek redress, complicating their cases by denying them access to justice, this scenario makes it mandatory for the state government to act swiftly by establishing legal aid offices in local communities in the state, Rotkang pleaded.
