The management of Usman Dandfodiyo University, Sokoto yesterday matriculated no fewer than 5325 students for the 2017/2018 academic year.

While admonishing the newly matriculated students to be good ambassadors of their respective families, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Zuru, urged them to be law abiding.

Prof Zuru, who noted that, the students are very fortunate to have been admitted in UDUS, insisted that, the institution remains the most peaceful in the federation.

The 5325 matriculating students, were admitted in 12 faculties.  Faculty of Science led with 1495, while Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Design matriculated only 40 students.

To the matriculating students, the VC said, “UDUS is one of the most highly disciplined and peaceful universities in Nigeria. Hence, you should consider yourselves highly lucky to have been given admission to study here.

“Remember, we offer our students results, not only in academics but also character. Therefore, you should be able to prove that you are of good character.

“Embrace the value of hard work. Take advantage of the serene environment and make yourselves better citizens of Nigeria. I want to remind you that one of the cardinal purposes of university education is for nation building and development.

“Therefore, avoid socially negative activities such as sexual harassment, cultism, theft, drug abuse amongst others. You must also shun extremism, bigotry, violence, ethnicity, political intolerance and religious prejudice.”
