Katsina Govt Empowers 20,000 Youths, Women In 3 years

No fewer than 20,000 youths and women have been empowered by Katsina State government from 2015 to date, Governor Aminu Bello Masari has said.

Speaking at a parley with electronic media chief executives in the state, Masari noted that in addition to Katsina Youth Craft Village, his administration upgraded five of the 12 Business Apprenticeship Training Centres (BATCs) across the state to meet the modern training needs of the beneficiaries.

Masari, in his scorecard in education, health, water, security and capital building among others emphasized that the present state administration ranked among the best in the country in the area of economic and human capacity development.

On local government, he disclosed that plans were underway for the appointment of caretaker committees for the 34 local government areas in the state pending the decision of the Supreme Court on the appeal filed by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to him, the care taker committees would be entitled to reasonable monthly allocation for capital expenditure and other commitments that would bring succor to the people at the grassroots in the state.

He added that his administration would construct nine nomadic primary schools and spend over three billion naira on primary education across the 34 local government areas of the state this year to further boost the teaching and learning environment.

He explained that besides the on-going massive rehabilitation of deplorable infrastructure in secondary schools, new schools, dormitories, laboratories, e-libraries and new classes were being provided to boost the standard of education across the state.

The governor also assured that the S-Power Programme initiated by his administration would recruit 5,000 teachers that would gradually be absorbed by the state into its permanent and pensionable employees in line with the resources of the state. 

On agriculture, Masari revealed that the distribution of over 23,000 tones of assorted fertilizer had been procured by the state government for this year’s farming season would soon commence.
