Police Nab 2 For Impersonating Army Personnel In Borno



The Borno State Police command has arrested two civilians, Umar Grema and Sadiq Shettima for impersonating soldiers of the Nigeran Army.

Briefing newsmen yesterday in Maiduguri, the Borno State commissioner of Police, Mr Damian Chukwu said upon interrogation, the suspects admitted committing the crime claiming to have carried out the act to extort money from victims.

“Two persons, Umar Grema and Sadiq Shettima, both of Maiduguri metropolis were arrested by SARS operatives at Jajeri area, Maiduguri parading themselves as soldiers of the Nigeran Army.

“They have threatened to arrest one Modu Bukar Modu Gonori , a staff of a non governmental Organization (NGO) without any reasonable cause, falsely alleging him to be a terrorists.

“The suspects were arrested in a swift response to a distress call to the SARS, Maiduguri. Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted commiting the crime claiming to have carried out the act to extort money from victims,” CP Chukwu said.

Similarly, Mr Damian Chukwu said the police also arrested two car theft syndicate who stole a Toyota car with registration number MAG 793 AE belonging to one Mrs Kolusa Gambo of Wulari ward in Maiduguri who is also a nurse with the Universty of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

“On 17th February, 2018 at about 1400hrs, one Mrs. Kolusa Gambo of Wulari area , Maiduguri, a nurse with the Universty of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, gave two persons, Abdul Shaheed and Bulama Shettima her Ash colour Toyota car with Reg No. MAG 793 AE valued N1.8 million to convey to a mechanic workshop for repairs.

“But the duo colluded and ran away with the Vehicle to Zaria in Kaduna State where they sold the vehicle through one Sani Abubakar of Zaria town at the cost of N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira) and squandered the proceeds.

“The three suspects have been arrested and the vehicle recovered. Efforts are being intensified to apprehend the reciever who abandoned the vehicle and fled on seeing the police,” CP Chukwu said.
