Nasarawa 2019 And Issues At Stake

Leadership Nigeria News Today

Nasarawa State that borders also the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) may be one of the smallest states of the Federation, but when it comes to partisan politics; its proximity to the Nation’s Capital tends to attract so much attention.

If not, how can we explain the fact that almost two dozen candidates have already made known their intention to occupy Government House Lafia when the two term tenure of Governor Al-Makura ends next year 2019?

As at now, all the major towns of the three Senatorial Zones are dotted with billboards with portraits of gubernatorial hopefuls, with only one female in the person of Senator Mrs. Akwashika and naturally in a male dominated political firmament, we can’t expect otherwise.

Again, and also intriguing, is the fact that most of the prospective guber aspirants seem to have aligned with the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) the ruling party at the centre, and in Nasarawa State.

As would be expected, rumors and counter-rumors surrounding other prospective aspirants made the rounds prior to the show of intents of one of the State’s most colourful and distinguished personality in the person of the State’s first Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Dr. Hassan Muhammad Liman, SAN, Fellow, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and Member of the Order of the Niger, MON.

So far, the role call remains impressive with Architects, Engineers, Lawyers, Educationists, Journalists advertising their potentialities through eye-catching billboards at strategic corners of the capital Lafia and other major towns.

As a youth empowerment guru and philanthropist of renown, joining the fray of gubernatorial aspirants may have altered the political equation of other leading aspirants. As the Wakilin Lafia, even the leading aspirants would be cursing, and wishing he hadn’t joined the fray.

In his “NASARAWA STATE ON MY MIND”, he eloquently portrayed why his candidacy will alter the political permutations already banding around on the leading aspirant. His preamble amply demonstrates that if he were to govern Nasarawa State, he will do so with an inimitable style centered at Town Hall meetings across the State with a broad view of communicating and articulating government policies, and securing the endorsement of the direct beneficiaries of such policies. Since he envisions a people’s type of administration with defined roles for every citizen, there will be a role for all stakeholders in the art of conventional as well as accountability.

He also envisions a government of continuity whereby, after a thorough assessment of the status of projects on ground and their viability and impact on the lives of the citizenry, such projects would be completed and with new ones initiated
The Wakilin Lafia, if afforded the privilege and honour to manage the affairs of Nasarawa State intends to unveil immediate practical and infrastructural action plan that would promote the rebuilding of the public sector, as well as government business towards enhancing the further delivery of democracy dividends to all the nooks and crannies of the State.

He intends also to bring his well rooted philanthropy into governance and as such would launch a multi-sector lifesaving programmes intended to bring succor to the populace via a programme based on “do it yourself” philosophy through well thought out self-sustaining economic palliatives.

Similar to the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the Wakilin Lafia and Senior Advocate of Nigeria-SAN, intends to launch a value and orientation programme capable of reforming the past epoch of orderliness using community re-mobilization and re-awakening process that will rekindle the innate awareness and consciousness of everyone.

If beckoned by the good people of Nasarawa State to serve them, he intends to re-launch Nasarawa State on the real path of a new “journey to rendezvous with its intended destiny.” It will be a journey where the emplacement of budgets would be all inclusive to serve the community in needed infrastructure, providing the enabling socio-economic environment for clear cut Agro-Industrial Development Plans, exploring the State’s solid minerals development profiles that would also include huge investment in education, healthcare, human capital, and creating a new civil service that would serve as the engine room of a modern Nasarawa State.

Whether we call it a “Dr. Hassan Muhammad Liman Plan”, or any other name for that matter, the bottom line is that the Wakilin Lafia’s well thought out socio-economic blue print for Nasarawa State is worth exploring at the appropriate time if his people would after taking a critical look at the State’s socio-economic realities beckon on him to implement his action plan of “Integrity, Action, and Justice.”

So in this rat race to Government House Lafia, many would desire that exulted office but only one would be chosen. Whoever that person may be, lies in the womb of the unknown. Would it be the Wakilin Lafia? That is the question on the lips of keen observers of Nasarawa State political landscape.
