The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other oil companies in Plateau State have donated an ultra-modern science laboratory worth millions of naira to the Government Secondary School Shendam.
Star Deepwater Petroleum Limited, a Chevron Company and parties in the Agbami field – Famfa Oil Limited, Statoil Nigeria Limited, and Petroleo Brasileiro Nigeria Limited, jointly donated the lab.
The laboratory, which was equipped with state of the art equipment, was aimed at supporting government efforts in improving the quality of education in Nigeria.
Speaking at the Handover ceremony, manager Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Chevron, Mr. Michael Kabi said the Agbami field has also assisted the government in raising needed manpower for the development of the country.
Kabi who represented the the director of the company, Richard Kennedy stated that the Agbami Medical and Engineering Professional Scholarship (AMEPS) is aimed at building the capacity of students in Medical and Engineering courses in all states of the federation as a strategy to feed into the national talent pool adding that from 2009, the Parties have invested over N8.4 billion in special scholarship programme.
He pointed out that since inception in 2009, over 16,000 students from all the states in Nigeria have benefited from the scholarship out of which 456 have graduated with first class degrees.
