Senator Lauds FEC On Lambatta-Lapai-Bida Road Approval

The Senator representing Niger South senatorial district, Mustapha Sani Mohammed, has commended the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approving funds for the reconstruction of Lambatta-Lapai-Bida road in Niger state.

LEADERSHIP reprorts that the Minister of State (1) for Power, Works and Housing, Mustapha Baba Shehuri, had on Wednesday told State House correspondents after the weekly FEC meeting that a sum of N33billion had been approved by the council for the reconstruction of the road.

Reacting to the development, Senator Mohammed in a press statement personally issued by him in Abuja on Thursday, lauded FEC’s gesture, adding that “Niger South economy will immensely be boosted once the road is in good condition.”

He noted that the 129.3-kilometre road has been unmotorable for decades, causing a dip in the economy of Niger South.

According to him, the last time the road got an attention from the Federal Government was during the Shagari era in the 1980s.

Senator Mohammed, who revealed that he used his membership of the Senate Committee on Works to facilitate the inclusion of the road in the 2017 budget, urged the contractor that will handle the project for quality and speedy work.

He also tasked the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing as well as Senate Committee on Works on diligent supervision of the project when commenced in order to ensure that the government get value for money.
