The nationwide Good Governance Tour, embarked upon by the Nigerian Union Journalists (NUJ), which began on Sunday with Zamfara State has afforded the Governor Abdulazeez Yari the opportunity to showcase his achievements since he assumed office in 2011 as the Executive Governor the state.
Conducting the team round some of the Administration’s Flagship Projects, the state Commissioner of Information, Hon Sanda Muhammad Danjari revealed that the governor Yari led Administration made it mandatory to construct 25km road in each of the 14 local government areas in the state.
Among the projects inspected by the good Governance Team so far, are the rehabilitation and equipping of the Zamfara State Radio and Television, the Command Secondary School, Gusau, which was built by Zamfara State government and handed over to the military for operation.
Another Flagship project inspected by the team is the 75km road, which cut across three local governments of Boko-Colony-Zurumi-Maradun and Bakura. According to the Special Adviser to governor Yari on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication, Hon Ibrahim Dosara told the visiting team that the road had remained a jinx since the colonial era before Yari’s government broke it.
“Because of the difficult terrain, the 75km became a source worry to the inhabitants of the area, until Yari constructed it. You can see that farmers can now produce sweet potatoes, onions etc, because the road is now good.” Before, reverse was the case.”
The team also inspected Jibia-Kaura Namoda road, a 54 kilometer Federal government road but been constructed by the Zamfara State government.
According to the state Commissioner of Information, Hon Sanda Muhammad Danjari “Despite the road is a Federal road, the Zamfara State government decided to construct it, to make life more meaningful for our people by enhanced economic activities.
“Our appeal to the Federal government is to refund the state, the amount it has expended constructing the road.”
The only road project in the state being handled by an indigenous contractor, a 16 kilometers Kwambarawa-Lamba-Kumburu road is near completion.
While conducting the visiting team round the 47km Gasua-Kasuwan Daji road, rehabilitated by the state government, Hon Ibrahim Dosara revealed that,
“When the current Administration came to power in 2011, it inherited huge debt of 55 billion naira and dilapidated infrastructures. To turn the tide around, the Yari’s Administration made prudent management of resources it’s watchword. The governor ensures that, no new projects will be initiated, until the resources is on ground. This principle has helped us a lot to achieve the much we have achieved’.
In the health sector, Hon Dosara said, the Yari led government has left no stone unturned to ensure easy access to quality health care services. He conducted the NUJ team round, hospitals rehabilitated or constructed by the state government.
There are the rehabilitation and total overhaul of the 120 bed Moriki Genera Hospital.
The chief nursing officer of the hospital, Abdullahi Adamu Marikina, who represented the medical Director said,
“The Moriki Community has not enough words to appreciate Governor Yari for turning around the hospital.
“It used to be skeletal service before the hospital was converted to a General Hospital. A mother, Sueba Abubakar, whose son is on admission in the hospital appreciated the governor and staff of the hospital for the improved infrastructures and services.”
Another Hospital inspected was the 120 bed Brinin Magaji General Hospital, currently at the advanced stage of completion.
Addressing his host on the essence of the visit, the NUJ President, Abdulwahid Odushile maintained that essence of the exercise was in keeping with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which mandated the fourth estate of the realm to hold government accountable to the people.
Responding, the governor Yari urged the Journalists to be objective in their reportage.
The three days visit is expected to round off with a Galante on Thursday.
