Road Crashes: 45 Deaths Recorded From Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara In 3 Months – FRSC

No fewer than 45 people have so far lost their lives due to road crashes in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara within January and March, Mr Abayomi Omiyale has disclosed.

Omiyale, who is the Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states zonal commanding officer of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) added that, the zone equally recorded a total of 86 accidents within the same period.

“Between January and March 2018, the total number of road traffic crashes within the zone stood at 86 as against 78 in 2017”

While attributing majority of the road crashes to disrespect for road traffics, over speeding, over loading and lots of other factored, Omiyale said, they have booked 4,964 motorists for violating various traffic rules in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States from January to March.

Said Omiyale, “Some of these offenders were sanctioned between January 2018 till date for overspending, over loading as well as driving without valid documents among other related offences.

While stressing that additional 195 vehicles were also booked for overloading offence, Omiyale divulged that, a total of 2014 applicants were issued temporary Drivers Licence from the zone in the first quarter of 2018.

He further called on those who are yet to claim their Drivers Licence to kindly do so, hence, they still have about 718 unclaimed.

The zonal commanding officer affirmed that, they are putting necessary measures towards achieving the commissions cooperate strategic goal which amongst others include, enhancing communication, social media, and technology, improving enforcement and rescue service as well as reducing road traffic crashes by 15 percent.
