The All Progressives Congress (APC) national headquarters appointed ward congress committee for Katsina State led by Mohammed Tanko Zakari, has scored high the conduct of the Saturday’s congress across the state.
Speaking at a press conference in the APC state secretariat in Katsina yesterday, Zakari noted that the exercise was free of any abnormality, complaints or violence in any ward.
“We are proud to say that in Katsina State, the congress was conducted smoothly. From our record, it is very clear that in some wards, the elections were done by mode of affirmation where the candidates and the party headquarters in such wards were able to reconcile the contending parties. Also, from the record, there are places where actual contest took place. As at this moment, so far, we have received results from about 30 local government areas out of 34,” he said.
He noted that the compilation of the results so far received was in progress even as they await the arrival of the outcome of the congress in the remaining four local government areas
On the allegation that some aggrieved contestants under the auspices of “Concerned APC Candidates” have urged the party to declare the results of the ward congress across the state illegal or they would go to court on the ground that “no ward congress was conducted by the party” in the state, Zakari said his committee is yet to receive any formal complaint in respect of any irregularity.
“We have not received any complaint by way of petition, protest or by whatever means that there were issues regarding the ward congress. During the congress, there were some phone calls from some polling units to say that they had issues and we hurriedly tried to see that those issues were addressed.”
