NUJ To Establish Own Radio, TV



The National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Waheed Odusile has revealed plans by the NUJ to establish its own radio and TV stations.

He disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Bauchi shortly after condoling families of the Union’s National Secretary General, Comrade Shuaibu Usman Leman over the death of his mother, Mama Jonnah Leman.

Comrade Waheed Odusile said the stations would soon commence operation in the next few months.

According to him, when operational, the stations would provide income generation for the Union for effective discharge of its responsibilities.

The NUJ National President enjoined working Journalists to always discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the ethics of the profession.

Commenting on Journalists, Comrade Odusile expressed concern over the inability of some media owners, especially private owners to pay their workers’ salaries.

He said the Union has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Labour to find a lasting solution to the problem.

The NUJ National President called on the federal government to consider its request for Special Salaries for Working Journalists due to the hazardous nature of their job.

Responding on behalf of the families of the deceased, the NUJ National Secretary General, Comrade Shuaibu Usman Leman commended the delegation for the visit and prayed God to reward them abundantly.

The NUJ National President was accompanied during the condolence visit by the Union Deputy National President, Comrade Muktar Gidado, Deputy National President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Comrade Umar Saidu and the NUJ Bauchi State Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Muhammad Malam Goje among others.
