The immediate past president of Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) , ESV Bolarinde Patunola- Ajayi has insisted that all transactions in realty should be controlled by the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) board to fight quacks in the sector.

In an interview with newsmen at an event in Abuja recently, he expressed worry over the influx of quacks in the industry carrying out illicit activities adding that registered estate surveyors who are backed by NIESV code of conduct would be penalised on incidents of sharp practises against them.

To attain affordable housing, he sought the need for federal, state and local governments to create conducive housing for its staff by embarking on inclusive housing programme for low, middle and the high income earners.

While suggesting the amendment of the obsolete land use act, he noted that whether governments built or rented houses that their target should be to bridge the social gap.

He pointed out that NIESV is the only professional body backed by law to provide valuation on oil spill sites across the country.

Patunola- Ajayi called on private developers to engage the services of professionals while investing on real estate to avert the activities of fraudsters and to build according to acceptable designs and standard.

He further requested that unclaimed dividends and idle pension funds should be invested in the sector, just as he enjoined federal government to monitor the investment to avoid incidences of diversion of funds to private pockets.

Patunola- Ajayi stated that barely 5000 members of the professional body is inadequate to serve about 180 million population saying that the new inductees would beef up the number of its members that are providing real estate services to the nation.

“We are eager to have more members to render the services of real estate surveying and valuation for economic, physical development and well being of the people”, he said.

The president called on professionals  yet to identify with the body to enrol for service in the areas of land and building valuation, compensation, facility management, environmental valuation and among others.
