The Bogghom speaking people of Kanam local government council of Plateau state penultimate week gathered in Namaran district of the council area to celebrate the 80th birthday and golden jubilee on the throne of their monarch, the Pankwal Boghhom, Alhaji Shehu Suleiman.
Through hard work, innovation, dedication and loyalty Alh Suleiman became the district head of Namaran in 1982 and later that of Dengi in 1996. He was appointed Pankwal Tankwal on Third Class status in 2002. He became the Pankwal Bogghom on Second Class in 2005.
It is against this background that sons and daughters of Bogghom nation at home and in diaspora gathered in Namaran to celebrate their own, the Pankwal Bogghom whose reign has brought peace, progress and development to Bogghmland .
However, there were mixed reactions as the royal father marked his 80th birthday, Golden Jubilee on the throne and incidentally lost his son, Yahaya Suleiman on the same day.
The occasion commenced with all the excitements and trappings of royal ceremonies in the northern part of the country, while many, particularly the guests knew nothing about the death of the monarch’s son, until toward the end of the ceremony when it was formally announced. Thereafter, prayers and a minute silence were observed in honour of the diseased who was also the Village Head of Namaran.
Prior to the announcement however, there were varied exhibitions, displays, cultural dances and feelings, and while some of monarch’s aides and attendants were jubilating, others were crying, upon which someone could easily think all were in the spirit of the jubilation and tears of joy. LEADERSHIP Sunday’s finding revealed that the deceased, who had three wives and seven children, has been sick for over a month and was hospitalised before he eventually passed on.
However, most speakers commended the royal father for his achievements since ascending the throne of his forefathers, as well as his composure and endurance during the event without allowing emotion about the loss of his son to take over him and weigh him down.
In his remarks, the Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong said the life of Alhaji Suleiman has been truly fulfilling and exemplary, saying that he is a destined king to lead his people and has been ordained by God since 1968.
Governor Lalong said the monarch’s record in community services, administration, humility and promotion of peace among his people is indelible and commendable. Lalong added that Alhaji Suleiman has been innovative, dedicated and loyal to constituted authority, with the trust and confidence of his people over the year.
Similarly, the Emir of Kanam, Alhaji Muhammadu Muazu Muhammadu II in his address said they were indeed gladdened with an unprecedented feats the royal father has achieved within his eight decades of life and five decades of royal reign which witnessed series of elevation to his current position as second class traditional ruler, the Pankwal Bogghom.
According to him, they are confident that he will continue to bring to bear his knowledge and experience to the common good of the Bogghom nation and humanity at large.
The Emir of Kanam further urge the Pankwal Bogghom to continue on the path of greatness , humility , honesty and dedication as they collectively rekindle the unique essence of the Bogghom nation for the greater good for all.
In his welcome address, the Pankwal Bogghom said the people of Kanam are peace loving while appealing to the state government to look into the issue of salaries of traditional rulers in the state. According to him, the construction of roads and the building of health clinic and general hospital for the people of the area should also be looked into by the state government so that the people of the area can have access to health care services when the need arises.
The royal father pointed out that he was overwhelmed by the show of love and the attendance of the occasion by people from all walks of life. He promised to do his best at ensuring peace and tranquility in his domain and beyond, adding that his domain is a big place but lacks important social amenities and infrastructure, of which when provided will improve the lives of the people and the society in general.
