An Upper Area Court 3, Kasuwan Nama Jos, on Wednesday sentenced a 28-year-old driver, Umar Sanni, to two years imprisonment for attempting to rape a five-year-old girl.
The Judge, Yahaya Mohammed, sentenced Sanni without an option of fine.
Mohammed said that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others who would want to indulge in such act.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Adamu Abdulmalik, told the court that the case was reported on April 20 at the `C’ Division Police station by one Aishatu Mustapha of Ankafala Street.
Abdulmalik told the court that the accused deceived the minor into his room and undressed her.
He added that the accused tried to have carnal knowledge of the girl and in the process released his sperm on her laps and warned her not to tell.
The accused pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court for mercy, adding that it was the devil’s work and promise never to do it again.
Abdulmalik said that the offence was contrary to Section 268 of the Penal Code Law. (NAN)
