The movie industry has yet again been thrown into mourning as a popular Yoruba actress, Aisha Abimbola popularly called ‘Omoge Campus’ dies of Cancer.
This is coming barely a year after foremost Yoruba actress Moji Olaiya’s death on May 17th 2017 few months after welcoming her second daughter.
The actress reportedly died of breast cancer on Tuesday, 15th May 2018 in Canada. Confirming her death, her fellow colleague in the industry, Bisola Badmus broke the news of her death on her Instagram page. Many of her colleagues namely Toyin Aimakhu, Adeniyi Johnson and others have reacted to her death noting that Aisha, a lively individual will surely be missed in the make-belief industry.
The late actress was rounding off her HND programme at the Lagos State Polythecnic when Wale Adenuga Productions came to shoot in her school. The director, Antar Laniyan – who eventually became her mentor – was waiting for a cast member when Abimbola walked up to him to ask for a role in the movie. Laniyan offered her the role of the absent actress, kicking off Abimbola’s acting career.
The movie ‘Omoge Campus’ shot her into limelight in 2001. Abimbola has featured in indigenous and non-indigenous productions such as “No Pain, No Gain,” “Awerijaye,” “So Wrong So Right,” “Omoge Campus,” “Kamson and Neighbours” among others.
Married to a colleague, Victor Ibrahim, Aisha Ibrahim has two children.
