Police Give Saraki 48hrs To Respond In Writing

The Nigeria Police Force yesterday rescinded its invitation of Senate President Bukola Saraki, saying he should instead respond in writing within 48 hours to allegations bordering on his involvement in the Offa robberies in which 33 persons were killed in Kwara State.

The Police had on Sunday publicly invited the Senate president to appear before it in person and give answers to the allegations.

According to the police, Saraki was expected to report to the Force Intelligence Response Team office at Guzape, Abuja.

But public outrage and condemnation trailed the invitation of the Senate president to appear before the police.

Saraki who disclosed the latest position of the Police yesterday agreed that he will respond in writing to the allegations.

Saraki yesterday confirmed his plan to respond in writing  via his twitter handle, @bukolasaraki.

“Following my earlier tweet, I have received the letter from @PoliceNG. They are no longer asking me to appear at any station but to respond in writing to the allegations within 48 hours- which I plan to do”, he tweeted.

The Police had said on Sunday that it was invitating the Senate president following allegations indicting him from confessions by five-gang leaders arrested for alleged active participation in Offa Bank Robbery.

But in a swift reaction, Saraki described the invitation as a desperate attempt to frame him up.

While noting that he will honour the Police invitation for questioning over his alleged relationship with the arrested suspects, the Senate president said that the attempt to frame him up just to tarnish his hard earned reputation is bound to fail like the previous effort since he has no link with any band of criminals.
