Ekiti Guber: Group Drums Support For Eleka, Calls For Strict Monitoring

Ahead of the July 14 gubernatorial election, a socio- political group, Arewa Youth Federation has thrown its weight behind the Ekiti State flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka as the next governor of the state, describing him as a man with vast experience, good intentions and interest to move Ekiti to greater heights.

The group President, Hon Adamu Kabir Matazu, while making the declaration during a press conference in Abuja, called on United Nations, European Union, African Union, ECOWAS and other international observers to monitor very seriously the conduct of 2018 Ekiti State Governorship election.

Matazu noted that the violence that marred the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the state portends great danger to the Ekiti 2018 gubernatorial election, saying a party that can’t organise its internal elections due to desperation of gladiators within its fold, can’t be trusted to supervise a decent electoral contest.

According to him, “It is very obvious to discerning minds that democracy is under serious threat in the hands of APC elements who by their utterances and body language have shown how far they are willing to go to subvert the will of the electorates.”

“We have resolved to add our voice as responsible stakeholders in the Nigerian, facts cannot be twisted and no matter how falsehood travels, truth will overtake it. Sons and daughters of Ekiti must rise up to defend their land against external aggression and resist political invasion and insurgency.

“Ekiti has remained relatively safe due to proactiveness of its Governor, Ayodele Peter Fayose, and his team to curtail all forms of incursion into its territory by insurgents whose agenda is to kill and main defenceless citizens for economic and land control,” he said.

He further called on all Arewa people living and doing business in Ekiti State to support Prof. Eleka as a way of reciprocating the gesture of hospitality and peaceful coexistence they have enjoyed from Governor  Fayose’s led administration.

“Prof Eleka and the PDP have shown how much premium they place on youth empowerment and religious tolerance by nominating a 39 year old Muslim and the immediate Ado Ekiti LGA Chairman as Deputy Governorship candidate.  In contrast, Fayemi and APC by their choice of a 74 years gerontocrat as running mate have shown so much disdain for youth empowerment and emancipation affirmed,” he said.
