FCTA Vows To Combat Insecurity, Corruption

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has vowed to ensure that insecurity, corruption and lack of infrastructure are reduced to the barest minimum.

Speaking when he received the resident programme officer, International Republican Institute, in his office, the acting director, FCTA department of chieftaincy and community development, Alhaji Jubrin Shaba, also stressed the need for training and retraining of administrators and leaders at the grassroots level.

Shaba explained that the duty of the department was to empower rural dwellers, bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, reduce rural- Urban migration and encourage community based self-help projects.

Responding, the visiting resident programme officer, Husna Hassan explained that the institute, which is a nongovernmental organisation, has the objective of working with political parties to strengthen their internal democracy system.

Hassan stated that the institute was ready to work with communities, create linkages between elected groups and the maginalised groups, like the women, with the hope that they would influence service delivery at the grassroots.

He disclosed that IRI is presently working in Adamawa, Bauchi and Ebonyi states, adding that since their office is located in Abuja, they would collaborate with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
