Employer’s N47m Lands Sales Girl In Trouble



A sales girl, Halima Adebayo of Olorunkuse area, Offa, Kwara State, who allegedly misappropriated her employer’s N47 million has been dragged before an Ilorin Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The 38-year-old accused was brought before the court on a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, theft, criminal misappropriation, criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Police arrested the accused following a petition letter written to the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ilorin, by one Alhaja Adebayo Halima of Jaburata Amarea, Offa, Kwara State that the accused stole her money.

According to the complainant, she employed the accused as sales girl into are A.R.A. Cool Room Fishery Frozen Shop at Owode market, Offa, and she (accused) dishonestly misappropriated the sum of N47m.

The accused was also said to have criminally conspired with her friends, Yinka, Pastor and Kudi now at large to steal the complainant’s fish.

Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that during the course of investigation at the State Intelligence Bureau, Police Headquarters, Ilorin the accused confessed  that she only misappropriated a sum of N14 million.

The FIR added that effort was on top gear to apprehend other culprits now at large.

The offences for which the accused was brought before the court contravened Sections 97, 287, 309, 312 and 322 of Penal Code Law.

The prosecutor, Toyin Olasupo, informed the court that investigation into the case was yet to be completed and she urged the court to adjourn the case till further date to enable the police carryout detailed investigation.

The prosecutor however objected bail of the accused and urged the court to remand her in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.

The defence counsel, Ibrahim Atofarati, had prayed the court to admit the accused to bail pending the outcome of investigation.

He submitted further that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria still presumes the accused innocent of the offences until proved guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. M.S. Lawal, upheld the submission of the defence and admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till June 25 for further mention.
