Police Arrest 60 Suspects, Charge 13 To Court In Imo




The Imo State Police Command, Owerri has arrested 45 suspects involved in various heinous crimes and criminalities in the state, with 13 of them charged to court in the state.

Splitting the suspects, the command stressed that 24 were arrested for armed robbery, 12, kidnapping, 8, cultism, one for child trafficking, 11 for unlawful possession of forms, three were High Tension Vandals and one for Internet fraud.

Briefing newsmen yesterday at the command headquarters, Owerri, the commissioner of police, CP Dasuki Galandanchi, stated that five kidnap victims had been rescued, while six stolen vehicles had also been recovered.

“While 17 handset phones have been recovered, we have equally recovered one laptop”.

CP Galandanchi however, said that 14 locally made guns, nine pump action guns, two bereta pistols and 51 rounds of ammunitions had been recovered.

He contended that one Andrew Nnoromele, 40 was arrested by the operatives of the Scorpion Squad of the command at Imo State University, Owerri junction after robbing one Mrs Chinenye Nnawuihe, a staff of Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri at gun point.

“Suspects have made useful statements to the police confessing to the rime and are helping the police in their investigation”, Galadanchi said.

According to him, some of the exhibits, that were recovered included: one green coloured golf car with registration number Abuja: BA 33 RBC and four phones.

CP Galadanchi, however disclosed that the operatives of Federal Special Anti-Robbery squad also arrested one Timothy Achigbo, 19, Chimankpa 18, Chinanemerem Azie, 18 and Chisom Osuagwu 24 in connection with a robbery case.

He however said that the suspects broke into the house of one Anuforo

Anthony of Amaegbu, Okwu Ogbaku in Mbaitoli Council Area of the state

on March 13, 2017 and his sister, one Mrs Maureen Nwachukwu on May 14,

2018 and robbed her of N500,000, 10 cartons of tiles and borehole sumo

machine at gun point.

“Suspects have made useful statements to the police confessing to the

crime. One locally made double barrel pistol was also recovered from

the suspects. Investigation is ongoing”, he said.
