Ekiti Assembly Deputy Majority Leader Dumps PDP For APC

Another member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Ebenezer Alagbada, who is the deputy majority leader yesterday dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alagbada, was the second lawmaker among the 26-member of the Assembly who are all PDP members to have defected to APC.

The lawmaker representing Ikole Constituency 1, Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan had last year left PDP for the same party.

Aribisogan had hinged his action on the then factionalisation and division of the state chapter of the PDP.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Ado Ekiti, the lawmaker representing Ise Orun constituency said he was leaving because of the alleged rancorous governorship primary of the state PDP which he claimed led to fictionalisation of the party.

Alagbada, disclosed that he had consulted his political leaders and his constituents and obtained their full consent before his historic declaration.

He said, “I am aware and it is an historical fact that during the 2014 PDP primary, governor Ayo Fayose promised my constituency, Ise Orun, the governorship after his tenure.

“We were therefore very hopeful when two of our illustrious sons, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Barrister Owoseeni Ajayi came out to show interests to contest for the PDP gubernatorial candidate.

“My constituency was therefore shocked and surprised when none of the two aspirants from my constituency was found worthy of support by the governor.

“Not only did he disdain them but worked ruthlessly to ensure their manipulation out of the race as candidate of the PDP in preference for the deputy governor, Prof Kokapo Olusola Eleka who was no where when we risked everything to ensure the victory of the governor both at the primary and general election.”
