Court Reinstates Sacked LG Chairman In Niger

A Niger state high court sitting in Suleja has ordered the  reinstatement of the sacked local  government  chairman  of Suleja,Malam Ahmed Kasim, describing the process as null and void.

He was purportedly impeached by the legislative  arm of the council  and suspended through a letter dated November 8, 2016 for further investigation  before  his removal was endorsed by the  state house of assembly.

The allegations  leveled against  him  bothered on abuse of office  and was automatically  replaced by his vice,  Shuaibu Abdullahi Maje.

Consequently, the sacked chairman challenged his removal at the State high court in Suleja.

Presided over by Justice Ahmed Bimma,he said in his judgement  that Kasim who is the plaintiff in the case has proved beyond reasonable doubt that his removal did not follow due process.

He held that the purported letters suspending and removing Kasim from office were null and void and therefore  ordered  for his reinstatement as council chairman with all his rights and privileges forthwith.

The sacked chairman yesterday described the court ruling reinstating him as a victory for democracy and that for him to resume office he must consult with the state government first.
