Former minister of Special Duties in the Jonathan administration, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has said that herdsmen who abandon their trade for killing innocent people and burning down communities are criminal elements and should be treated as such.
Turaki, who is aspiring to be Nigeria’s President on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019, stated this during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, yesterday.
He said the federal government led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed woefully in all the three areas of its electioneering campaign; security, corruption and economy.
The presidential aspirant lamented the herders/farmers crises in the country, especially in the North Central region, saying the Buhari government has failed to curb the menace and combat banditry.
“Security agencies know or have cause to know where the bandits are, yet nothing has been done.
“Nigerians are not safe anywhere. Farmers and herders clash is assuming worrisome dimension with the war being fought in a lopsided manner. The APC government has failed to confront insurgency. The PDP government’s approach of carrot and stick in handling the fight against insurgency was in line with international best practices, but the current government jettisoned the laudable recommendations of the previous government,” he said.
