The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commiserated with the Lagos State government and the people of Lagos State on the accident that happened at the Otedola Bridge in Lagos on Thursday, June 28, which led to the death of nine persons and destruction of 54 vehicles.
The congress, in a statement through the president comrade, Ayuba Wabba, mni said, “we express our heart-felt condolences to the victims and families of the deceased”. The magnitude of loss of lives and destruction of property is awesome, he added.
Wabba said the inferno that followed was of immense proportion.
“We hold the view that it was an avoidable accident, given the circumstances.”
Speaking further, Wabba said, “we call for higher driver-education and more strict enforcement of traffic rules and regulations, especially with regard to parking of vehicles with inflammables.
“If these were observed, we would not have been thrown into this level of grief or mourning”.
“Once again, our hearts go to the victims and their families”.
The congress urged the Lagos State government not to relent in ensuring that utmost discipline is maintained, not only on its roads, but also on all our roads.
