The Registrar, Institute of Credit Administration (ICA), Professor Chris Onalo, has urged married couples in Nigeria and diaspora not to depend on societal influences for solutions to marital problems but can refer to someone credible for guidance.
Professor Onalo, who is a credit management expert, said this at the launch of his book titled “Everyday Marriage Tonic” in Lagos.
He urged couples to seek guidance from credible people who will be bold enough to tell the couple their fault and remedy it.
According to him, “marriages today are facing severe challenges with many gone into extinction; others are simply ‘suffering and smiling’ or simply enduring instead of enjoying.
The present generation of young people who are already looking to get married, he said, are faced with difficulties of knowing their responsibilities, obligations, rights and privileges in marriage, which they do not know may result to poor upbringing of their children. This, he noted, certainly poses huge threat to the future of family and the world at large.
“This is followed by the fact that the root of every family is marriage, the bedrock of every nation is family; but the character, personality and disposition of marital actors, in this case ‘husband and wife’, undoubtedly defines the future of any nation,” he pointed out.
