Oyo, Osun Customs Generate N9.4bn, Arrest 8 Smugglers

The Oyo, Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have said they generated N9, 436, 241, 792. 56 to the coffers of the federal government mainly from excise factories between January and May this year.

The Area Commander, Comptroller Christopher Odibu while briefing newsmen on the mandate and activities of the Command in Ibadan, said the figure represents 38 per cent of the revenue target given to the Command.

He said the generated revenue was a clear increase of N7, 217, 247, 676. 49 generated the same period last year.

The Customs boss also disclosed that in the last one year, contrabands goods worth N50, 630, 568, 14 have been impounded.

He added that eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the contraband goods, while some of them have been released on bail as the cases were still in court for further investigation.

According to him, the goods includes 13 Tokunbo cars with duty paid value put at N21, 145, 799.56, 1, 669 (50kg) bags of Parboiled Rice with duty said value is N14, 747, 255.65k and 44 (25 litres) kegs of vegetable lol with duty paid value at N754, 469. 10k.

Others are 38 bales of second hand clothes with duty paid value at N5, 829, 988.50k, 15 (50kg) bags of sugar with duty paid value at N490,000.00k and 13 Means of Conveyance (vehicle) with duty paid value at N7, 663, 055. 33k.
