Senator representing Cross River northern senatorial district in the 8th Senate, Dr Rose Okoji Oko on Saturday was among other dignitaries who mourned the late Hon Edith Ochada as she was laid to rest at her father’s compound in Echumofana, Yala amidst tears and tributes.
The late Edith was a former councillor representing Echumofana ward and an ex-vice chairman of Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State. She died at a medical facility in Calabar on May 25, 2018.
Other political leaders who graced the burial ceremony include the former chairman of Yala LGA and DG Mobilisation to Governor Ayade, Hon Mike Osibe, the CEO of Odecyn Construction Company, Engr Cosmas Ekawu , the general manager, IC World, Prince George Ogonyi, Yala LGA chairmanship hopeful, Engr Steve Agbaka, former councilor representing Okpoma Ward, Hon Stephen Jasper Ogar amongst others.
According to Senator Rose, “The death of Hon Edith Ochada is a personal loss to me. I’m short of words to describe how devastated and heart broken I am over the passing away of this true daughter, sister and confidant with whom I had an excellent sisterly relationship.
She said, “On behalf of my family and the good people of Cross River Northern Senatorial District, I commiserate with the Ochada Family, Yala LGA and Cross River State.
“We in Cross River Northern Senatorial District and in particular, Yala LGA, have lost a worthy daughter, but we will take solace in the fact that her services and other accomplishments will continue to be a source of Inspiration to us all.”
The state security adviser to Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade, Chief Jude Ogbeche Ngaji in a glowing tribute to the late Edith on his official Facebook wall on Friday said, “It is with a heavy heart, sadness and a feeling of great loss that i received the news of the passing away of the former councillor representing Echumofana Ward and Vice Chairman of Yala local government area, Hon Edith Ongbonya Ochada.
“Hon. Edith’s death is a devastating loss to the people of Yala LGA in particular and Cross River State in general. With her death we have lost a person of uncommon courage, strength and determination. The late Hon. Edith was such a rare breed who lived a life of dedicated to the cause of Yala unity as well as commitment to the upliftment of the citizenry.
“I join all well meaning sons and daughters of Yala LGA and Cross River State at large to mourn the passage to eternity of a truly worthy daughter whose eventful political career was cut short by her sudden death.
He urge the parents, immediate family, friends, brothers and sisters and political associates to take solace in the knowledge that although she lived a short life, her immense contributions to communal and state development have assured her of a place amongst the eternal heroines of Cross River State.
He added that, it is my fervent believe that she will always be remembered for the exemplary humility, great vision, wisdom and maturity which she brought to political leadership in Yala while alive.
