The education secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has lamented the continued vandalisation of school properties, especial in rural communities of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In an interview with LEADERSHIP at the weekend, the zonal education officer in Gwagwalada area council, Mrs. Onyetugo Nwokocha, noted that the administration has actually provided facilities for quality education in the rural areas, but frowned that the facilities are
being vandalised in the communities.
Nwokocha maintained that the government was committed to delivering qualitative education to the citizens, but lamented that schools in the remote areas may not benefit from this gesture due the activities of vandals.
She therefore called on traditional rulers to protect schools facilities in their domain, adding, “The government provides thefacilities, but the villagers vandalise and mess the whole place up.”
The zonal education officer also explained that the department of quality assurance would always ensure good quality education in both public and private schools in the FCT.
Nwokocha called on parents to be committed to their duties of child care at home, just as she urged teachers to be also committed to their duties in the classrooms to make the children reach their potentials.
