Staff Hail Reappointment Of Prof Bala As DG Energy Commission

The Concerned Staff of Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for reappointment Prof Jidere Bala, as the director general of the commission.

A statement signed by Haruna Gidado, on behalf of the staff of the commission made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, said they received the news of the renewal of appointment of Prof Bala for the second tenure as the director general of the commission with great joy, delight and intense excitement.

Gidado said the change agenda of the president geared towards fighting corruption both within and outside the public service will firmly advance to greater heights with the reappointment of Bala.

He described Bala as incorruptible and principled, an attribute he said will consolidate on the financial discipline, accountability, transparency, and openness he has instilled in the governance of the commission for the past five years.

The statement reads in part: “Prof Bala despite the financial constraints during his first tenure he drastically reduced commission’s debt on constituency project from N16 billion in 2013 to about N6 billion in 2017, and ensuring no any debt incurred on all the laudable projects executed during  his stewardship.

‘’Prof Bala ensured that Nigeria’s contribution to international energy organisations under the Commission’s purview like World Energy Council (WEC), London and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Abu Dhabi, UAE were fully paid and up to date.

‘“He facilitated Nigeria joining of International Energy Charter (IECh), Brussels, Belgium in first quarter of 2017 and also the election of Nigeria as the Vice President of the 8th Assembly of the IRENA, Abu Dhabi, UAE, 2016.

‘’Promoted many renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in various rural communities and universities, and in collaboration with development partners like UNDP, UNIDO and JICA that improved energy access for clean water supply, security, healthcare delivery, e-learning, and SMEs.’’
