A stakeholder of the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Sam Nkire, has expressed fear that his party may lose out in its bid to clinch the governorship seat if it fails to field an Ukwa-Ngwa candidate in the 2019 elections.

He stressed that since the present democratic dispensation started in the state that all governors who had governed the state from Dr Orji Uzor Kalu from Abia North to Senator Theodore Orji Abia Central that all took their two terms.

According to him, it will be absurd if the people of Abia South whose turn it is to govern the state now is not allowed to complete its second term, stressing that the zone which is Abia south should be allowed to do what other zones have done in the past.

Nkire’s fears were contained in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen, saying that if the APC in the state fails to field a candidate from the Abia south that it stands the chance of losing out from the governorship seat come the next election.

The statement reads, “Chief Nkire a stakeholder of Abia state APC has predicted that APC may lose governorship election in the state if it does not field a candidate of the Ukwa-Ngwa extraction.

“My advice is that the only way to defeat the PDP government in Abia State is to choose a popular candidate from Ukwa-Ngwa area, any political party that chooses its candidate from outside Ukwa-Ngwa was doomed to fail.”

Nkire noted that the Ukwa-Ngwa people, just like the people of Northern Nigeria would close ranks once their ‘turn’ is threatened to achieve a common agenda and appealed to the people of Old Bende to reciprocate the same gesture they had done for them in the past.

He said that he is of the opinion that anybody in Abia State APC who says he or she does not see the realities on ground is not being sincere and therefore does not mean well for the party.

The Abia APC stakeholder urged the people of Old Bende to give Ukwa-Ngwa people a little more time to conclude the process of selecting a credible and popular candidate capable of defeating the PDP government in the State.
